MMA Vs. Boxing

Over the weekend an interesting crossover fight occurred when multiple weight Boxing world champion James 'Light's Out' Toney fought decorated wrestler and two time light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Randy 'The Natural' Couture.

I was billed as Boxing Vs. MMA, but the fight was all over before it started. Toney is a fantastic boxer defeating great's Michael Nunn and Evander Holyfield, but with in the first thirty seconds Toney was taken down and the rest was history. Couture known for his vicious ground and pound effectively pummelled Toney who looked like a fish out of water and finally caught Toney in an arm collar choke.

Credit to Couture, after the fight he was respectful to Toney saying he actually backed his mouth up and stepped into the octagon, opposed to just trash talking and shying away.

While the match up was a complete mismatch, It show's James Toney can still hype an event even if he has nine months of basic takedown defence.

Toney believe's that the heavyweight's are running away from a real challenge and that was why he moved into MMA.  The fight did get Toney publicity but probably not enough to earn him a shot at the Klitschko sisters and David Gaye as Toney has so fondly named the athlete's. The disappointing fact for Toney is that he has not had a win over a good level of opposition since 2003, although he did defeat WBA heavyweight champion John Ruiz but tested for two types of steroid.

While Toney is used to being a top of the bill fighter, I feel that the UFC appearance will boost his marketability but he will have to fight again soon against a reputable opponent, Johnathan Banks springs to mind as he is from Michigan as James Toney, with local bragging rights on the line this could sell well as well.

As for the UFC I can see the brand going forward strength to strength, with it being the most well known MMA promotion in the world, and also gaining more boxing fan's after James Toney's efforts.

New blog New Start

Hi followers, am making this blog to give my two cent's on what happening in the boxing world, what I think of fight results, fight news and if Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao or Haye Vs. The Klitchko's will happen!

1st news story is that Antonio Margarito has not been licensed by California State Athletic Commission, This stems back to his ex trainer Javier Capetillo loading his gloves with plaster of Paris before fighting Shane Mosley back in January 2009. He was hoping to fight pound for pound king Manny Pacquaio in November.

I think this is great news as if the illegal infringement wasn't noticed Margarito could of permanently damaged Mosley, and while this is the only time Margarito was caught cheating who knows how long he has been using illegal substance's against the likes of Kermit Citron, Golden Johnson and Miguel Cotto who looked a changed man after the fight, while Manny Pacquiao demolished Cotto, he has been rated as a phenomenal athlete, with all due respect to Margarito he hasn't set the world alight and is more known for his chin than his boxing ability. Another matter is should Margarito get a career high payday after being caught cheating?

"Shortly before his next fight with Shane Mosley in Los Angeles, Margarito was found to have illegal plaster inserts in both gloves. Subsequent examination of photos from the Cotto fight show red stains on Margarito's hand wraps that are consistent with stains on the inserts seized by the California State Athletic Commission when it suspended Margarito's boxing license for a year."
Margarito protest's he did not know anything about the wrap's but if the glove fits (no pun intended) your full of shit.
Am not going to bore people with all the technicalities of the hearing, but Margarito isn't even licensed to spar in the State of California after this incident, and his new trainer seems just as clueless as he didn’t even check the full extent of his ban.

No one wants to see another incident like Billy Collins vs. Luis Resto incident which seen Billy Collin's lively hood savagely taken away from him.

It's reported that Billy Collin's eyes were open on this photo
See the similarities in the swelling?

So would you license a boxer that claims that he did know nothing about hit gloves/ wrap's being tampered with? With the risk of damaging another young man's lively hood more than usual in the brutal sport that is boxing... I wouldn't
